Summer course Grubinger & Marinissen Mozarteum Salzburg
From 5 to 10 August, Martin Grubinger and Arnold Marinissen hold a summer course at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Participants will work on multipercussion and marimba repertoire.

January 2024 - Arnold Marinissen published by Donemus

Arnold Marinissen is pleased to announce that as of January 2024, his music is published by Donemus.

Marinissen's compositions currently number around 70. They will soon be available from the Donemus webshop.

December 2023 - Simone Weil cycle completed and premiered
The Simone Weil cycle, supported by the FPK, is ready! "Des bruits qui ne parlent pas" has been premiered by Goska Isphording and Tatiana Koleva past autumn. "La condition ouvrière" and "Un temps inhabitable" will receive their first performances on 20 January in Taipei (Taiwan) by Yi-Ping Yang (see picture) and duo NanaFormosa. The final piece, "La racine du mal" for bass flute and fixed media, will be premiered later in 2024, by Raymond Honing.

January 2023 - FPK support for three news works
The Dutch fonds Podiumkunsten has awarded Marinissen a werkbijdrage (work support) for the creation of a cycle of pieces around texts by the French early 20th century philosopher and activist Simone Weil.

New works for Raymond Honing (bass flute), Claire Edwardes (vibraphone) and Goska Isphording & Tatiana Koleva (harpsichord & percussion). Electronics are applied in all three works, featuring the voice of Agathe Labadie.

May 2022 - new CD Fossils out
Arnold's new portrait CD Fossils has been released by concertello records. With four works: "Fossils" for piano and electronics; "Variances" for ensemble; "Shutterspeed" for clarinet and fixed media; and "Blatt und Humus" in a version for voice, guitar and cello.

Soon also available on the digital platforms.

May 2021 - Papa Westray published by Billaudot
The new Saxiana book with eight concert etudes for the saxophone arrived by post! It is published by Billaudot, and curated by the wonderful Nicolas Prost.

October 2020 - Live premiere Memo
Residentie Orkest string trio Justyna Briefjes (violin), Elisabeth Runge (viola) and Miriam Kirby (cello) do the live premiere of Memo, with spoken word artists Benita Bocoum, Jemaya Douwes and Reno Els, at Zuiderstrandtheater The Hague.

November/December 2019 - Dutch Classical Talent Elisabeth Hetherington performs La Pizia e la Marangona
Between 10 November and 15 December, soprano Elisabeth Hetherington tours The Netherlands as Dutch Classical Talent. She will perform Marinissen's "La Pizia e la Marangona" twelve times, plus works by Strozzi, Caccini, Monteverdi and Gubaidulina.

February 2019 - Portrait CD #2 presented, Ensemble SCALA @ Muziekgebouw
In January, Marinissen’s second portrait cd BLINK was released by concertello records. Today it will be presented at the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam; Ensemble SCALA will perform the opening piece Rapprochement for microtonal ensemble.

June 2018 - Portrait CD #1 released
In June, a cd with six works by Arnold Marinissen will be released by concertello records. The album is titled Sphinx and encompasses Von Pferden, Graesern, Sonnen, Menschen for vocal quintet, written for Silbersee (formerly VocaalLAB) and selected by the Dutch Toonzetters as one of the 10 best premieres of 2011; Sphinx, created for cellist Katharina Gross; Totem, commissioned and premiered by marimbist Ramon Lormans; La Pizia e la Marangona for soprano, composed for a project in the Biennale di Venezia 2015, conceived by artist Channa Boon, who also made the libretto; Guts I, one of the works that Marinissen created music for dancer/choreographer Ederson Rodrigues Xavier; Iron Velvet for percussion sextet, commissioned by the Jan Pustjens Foundation for the occasion of its 2018 Focus Day.

MARCH 2018 - Portrait concert at Toets des Tijds, 22 April
On 21 and 22 April, concert series Toets des Tijds at Het Veem Amsterdam presents a festival around composer/performers, which features amongst others David & Diamanda Dramm & Anne LaBerge, Quang Ngo Hong, Guus Janssen, Maud Sauer, Theo Loevendie and Arnold Marinissen. On Sunday 22 April at 20:15, a selection of my works will be performed by cellist Katharina Gross, percussionist Noè Rodrigo Gisbert and myself. My new work Sphinx for cello will be premiered; other works are Fingerprints II & V for solo percussion, Extremely Unfavorable in a version for voice and cello, and Totem for marimba, and duo works by Gross & Marinissen.

NOVEMBER 2017 - Premiere Pitch Dark @ November Music
Celliste Katharina Gross, componist/slagwerker Arnold Marinissen, beeldend kunstenaar Giny Vos en scenograaf in opleiding Noor Stenfert Kroese maken de voorstelling Pitch Dark. Pitch Dark is een samenspel van licht en muziek, waarin Gross & Marinissen met nieuw werk de muzikale draad spinnen, en lichtbewegingen en -objecten van Vos & Stenfert Kroese de rol van acteurs innemen. In een wisselwerking tussen akoestische, optische en ruimtelijke prikkels wordt in het donker met het waarnemingsvermogen gespeeld. Door de samenkomst van cellospel, electronica, slagwerk en field recordings ontstaat een gevoel van intimiteit en ongrijpbaarheid. Als muzikale migrant doorkruist het fenomeen Sarabande de voorstelling. Rob van den Broek creëerde speciaal voor Pitch Dark een 12-snarige cello.
